How do I know when I need to Get Treated?

Remember that Healing in Motion specializes in treating the whole person in order to keep real people functioning.

Life is messy and we all need an occasional 'tune-up' for optimal performance.

If you can answer 'yes' to any of these questions, it is time for you to schedule a treatment.

  • Do you think you have to "live with the pain"?
  • Are people telling you that its "all in your head"?
  • Are you feeling like you have no energy and can't continue at your current pace?
  • Are your everyday chores hurting or getting harder?
  • Did your doctor send you to another clinic and you are still not better?
  • Have you tried different pain medications or injections that provided only short term relief?
  • Are you changing the way you are living because of your pain?

You do not have to live with pain. Call today to schedule an appointment with our advanced manual therapists that treat your entire body.

Thirty Minutes a Day? Better think 50.

Headlines across the country splashed "New Federal Guidelines for Exercise Increased to One Hour" following the release of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) report on dietary guidelines last September. The guidelines, which call for 60 minutes of physical activity each day, twice the recommendations of ACSM/U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the U.S. Surgeon General, caused confusion among the general public, many of whom do not meet 30 minutes of recommended activity a day.

"By raising the recommendation to 60 minutes of moderate physical activity per day, the report has the potential to dissuade the most sedentary from initiating a pattern of moderate physical activity that would be a healthy lifestyle change, and could lead to additional increases in total physical activity," said ACSM President Howley

Greater amounts of physical activity than currently recommended may be necessary to prevent people from gaining weight, and to help them lose weight and keep it off, according to updated guidelines issued by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

"In the midst of a genuine crisis in Americans' health, related to what we eat and how little we move, these guidelines are meant to provide an understanding and clarification of the role of physical activity and its relationship to weight," Dr. Joseph E. Donnelly of the University of Kansas in Lawrence and chair of the advisory committee noted in a statement.

Making Good Choices with Calories

Losing one pound requires that you burn about 3,500 more calories that you consume.

Your daily calories are burned according to your personal activity level. This activity level corresponds to the following set of activities;

  • Sleeping - 8 hours
  • Personal care (dressing, showering) - 1 hour
  • Eating - 1 hour
  • Cooking - 1 hour
  • Sitting (office work, selling produce) - 8 hours
  • Driving car to/from work - 1 hour
  • Light leisure activities (watching TV, chatting) - 3 hours
